Match Report :We kicked off this top of the table clash, with the sun shining and not a wisp of wind, no one at that point could’ve predicted what was about to come!
The Hawks started the game strongly, and had Borehamwood on the back foot; we looked particularly dangerous down the right side where Sam and Jamie were linking up well. Several good crosses in from that area caused the visitors problems and they were fortunate to scramble the ball clear on more than one occasion. We scored the goal we deserved mid-way through the half, when a lovely free kick from Sam Waller was directed into the corner of the goal by Jamie who had timed his run perfectly in behind their defenders. We continued to dominate the play until half time with no real goalmouth action.
As we kicked off the second half the weather started to change and it became very grey overhead and a chill wind cut across the ground, within five minutes this had turned into a torrential downpour combined with a howling gale. Had the game not been in one teams favour, we would’ve called it off, however the players and most of the supporters braved the conditions and soldiered on. Borehamwood came more into the game as the weather affected our ability to pass and move, but did not stop each and every boy on the pitch from giving 100%. We almost went two up on a couple of occasions as Sam fizzed in a long shot which went inches over and then after a pass from Javaid, he broke clear only to have his crisp shot saved by the goalies face! We arguably should’ve had a penalty when Jamie was shoved in the area as he tried to get onto a through ball, his Dad the `man in black’ was having none of it and waved play on. Within a few minutes Borehamwood equalised when a quick throw caught us napping and the Borehamwood forward swept the ball passed Aidan. We survived a shot that hit the post and came back out and then three consecutive corners in the last minute, one of which should’ve been converted by one of their defenders who found himself with time and space to finish, but scuffed the shot. The game ended all square and although the weather was the same for both teams, I feel it affected our game more than theirs.

Match Report :It was back to the league campaign against our new local rival Herons. It became obvious from very early on in this game that we were going to run out comfortable winners. The Hawks totally dominated the game comfortable passing the ball around to each other and creating several chances; some of which failed to find the target, the ones that did, were well saved by the Herons keeper.
We finally broke the deadlock when Harry Warwick scored his second header in as many weeks after a deep cross from Billy Fox. Despite dominating the play for the rest of the half we failed to ad to our single goal advantage.
The Hawks started the second half again the stronger and it was no surprised when my `man of the match’ Joe Baldwin won the ball in midfield, stepped inside an advancing Herons player and lashed a right foot shot into the to left hand corner of the net.
Herons pulled one back when a shot going wide clipped Matty Pearce’s heel and wrong footed Aidan (who was actually leaning against the post enjoying a cigar and a glass of brandy).
This fortunate goal gave the Herons some hope and they hit a couple of long range efforts which Aidan punched over (he had put his cigar and drink down at this point, for those concerned about H&S). This seemed to make the Hawks more determined and after some god work from Javaid Payne on the right, Sam Waller broke through the Herons defence and swept the ball home. Harry Warwick made it four when he skipped past three or four Herons players and squeezed the ball home from a tight angle. Luke Wilson rounded things off with a long range effort which whizzed into the bottom corner. I would like to mention that despite not appearing in the action reported above, Nuggs, Sam H, Olly V & Nick W all played their part in the best team performance I have seen to date.

Match Report :We played our final cup qualifying game against unbeaten Borehamwood only needing a draw to progress to the semi-finals.
In the first ten minutes they set about us, tackling hard and playing the ball early to their tricky front two. Fortunately we scored against the run of play when Harry Warwick neatly headed home after the goalkeeper failed to hold a cross from Jamie Gerred. Jamie himself made it two before the break when he hit a shot from outside the area, which the goalie fumbled and dropped over the line.
In the second half the game remained very tight until Sam Waller coolly finished a corner from Robbie at the near post giving us a 3 goal advantage. Robbie rounded of a great team performance when he lifted the ball over the advancing keeper, after he had been put through by a lovely Joe Baldwin pass to make it 4-0. The score flattered us slightly, but it was a terrific battling team performance.

Match Report :With the weather forecasters getting it spot on, we turned out against LCC in torrential rain; the last thing we wanted today was extra time in this County Cup match!!!!
The first half got off to a scrappy start with neither team managing to stamp their authority on the match, you could tell it was going to be a tight affair. Both sides had a couple of half chances but nothing to really worry the goalkeepers. Half time 0-0.
LCC started the 2nd half the stronger, and went in front after about five minutes when a nicely struck shot found the bottom left hand corner of the net, just beating Aidan as he dived across goal. We went further behind when LCC notched their second, when a simple ball through the middle was finished off by their forward who’d managed to get the wrong side of our centre backs.
The Hawks desperately tried to get some rhythm going but found the conditions and LCC strong tackling difficult to overcome. They kept at it though and after some good work from Ollie Verlander, he found Sam Waller who hit a great shot, low and hard from outside the RH side of the area into the far side of the net. This was exactly half way through the second half and gave the boys the little boost they needed. Within minutes, we equalised, when another neat ball from Ollie found Robbie inside the area. He sided stepped a couple of challenges and drove the ball home. The game really opened up and both sides gave their all looking for a winner, we thought we had nicked it when a clearance following one our attacks was collected by Matty Pearce, he took a touch and hit a lovely shot from well outside the area which took a slight deflection and popped over the diving goalie. With the last attack in normal time LCC equalised, when we failed to clear our lines, and they poked the ball home to make it 3-3.
In extra time the Hawks played really well and went back in front when Harry Warwick was tripped in the area after a great run. Sam Waller confidently smashed the resulting penalty home. We seemed to have things under control with only minutes left in the 2nd period of extra time when LCC equalised again. At this stage we felt penalties were immanent, but another great run down the left by Harry W, was tucked in by Robbie after Jamie’s shot was stopped by the LCC goalie and virtually from the restart another attack was finished off by Jamie to make it 6-4 to the Hawks.
Big thanks to Gary for helping out this morning and to all the parents today who turned up in their numbers again and didn’t head for shelter despite the weather. If anyone has any idea who the wee weekend army cadet on the sidelines was………. let me know!!!

Match Report :Our second cup tie in as many weeks saw us up against St Albans City South, for the third time this season already.
It was like ground hog day when Sam Waller, smashed a half volley home from just inside the area to give us the lead after only a few minutes. St Albans scored straight from the restart, which took the boys and our visiting throng of fans completely by surprise.
St Albans pushed on and started to run the game, with our midfield struggling to cope with their driving runs. Fortunately they found our defenders difficult to pass and when they did break through, could not beat Aidan who was having a great game.
A tactical switch was required and an extra man pushed into midfield helped balance up the share of play & possession up until half time.
The second half was very much like last week, with the Hawks pushing forward and creating chance after chance. Sam went close a couple of times before a crisply struck shot from Joe, was fumbled by the excellent St Albans goalie and dropped over the line to give us a 2-1 lead. Amazingly, from the kick-off, we allowed the same St Albans player who scored their first goal to go on yet another mazy run, only halted by Sam Harris, who stopped him in his tracks on the edge of the area, unfairly according to the ref! St Albans scored from the resulting free kick, when a lovely free kick drifted over Aidan into the top of the goal.
Nascot Wood stormed back and continued to put St Albans under pressure. Our defenders were winning everything and bringing the ball forward with confidence, none more so than man of the match Billy Fox, who continually intercepted through balls and fed our midfield and attackers with neat passes. The Hawks got what they deserved when a Luke Wilson special caught their goalie by surprise to give us a 3-1 lead in injury time by my watch. Robbie put things beyond for St Albans when the goalie spilled a shot and he neatly tucked it away to make the final score 4-2.
This was a battling team performance, with everyone playing a part in the win. Well played boys.

Match Report :Our first cup tie of the season found us up against St Albans City North. We got off to a flyer when Sam Waller blasted into the roof of the net from the right hand edge of the penalty area. This early lead gave us confidence as we pressed forward looking for a second goal. Unfortunately we conceded a goal mid way through the first half, when a speculative shot from outside the penalty box, just beat the diving Aidan.
This goal gave St Albans confidence and their best player and play maker in the middle of the park was starting to dominate proceedings, but they failed to turn their advantage into goals.
The second half was a different affair with the Hawks dominating from the off, we were rewarded when Jamie finished smartly to make it 2-1. An own goal following a goalmouth scramble gave us a 3-1 advantage soon after. Harry Warwick then scored a superb fourth, after a jinking run down the left channel and rasping a shot passed the helpless keeper.
St Albans scored a second to make the final score 4-2 to the Hawks.
This was a great team performance, with man of the match Sam Waller, orchestrating our attacking moves from the right side of midfield. Well done boys.

Match Report :A great team performance resulted in a comfortable win against Hemel Comets. Jamie started the scoring just after ten minutes when he twisted and hit a great shot on the half-volley from the right side of the area, which flew past the Hemel keeper. Minutes later Jamie hit another shot, this time low and hard from outside the left side of the area which again easily beat the keeper. An own goal made it three nil, when a defender chasing Robbie who had broke clear into the area, got his foot to the ball as Robbie shaped to shoot, only for it to roll past his goalie into the net. Jamie then completed a superb hat-trick when he blasted the ball home after he found himself one on one with the Comets goalie.
We were not finished yet, Like Wilson then scored the goal of the game, when a clearance came to him a good 30 yards out, he struck the ball sweetly and it sailed over everyone high into the net. Sam Waller ended to scoring just before half time with a lovely header to make it 6-0.
The second half saw us again completely dominate the play, with man of the match Harry Warwick terrorising the Comets defence with his mazy runs down the left flank. We scored two further goals when Robbie tapped in and Olly finished smartly from around the penalty spot.
Other things of note: - Nick Wing managed to amazingly scoop the ball over from about a foot (he’s been watching Robbie!) and Aidan looked fine & dandy in his all blue ensemble. The defence although not troubled, won and distributed the ball very nicely…thank you.

Match Report :After losing to St Albans City South in our first league game a few weeks back bizarrely we found ourselves playing them again in the league this time at home.
Like the away game we started the match well and completely dominated the play, this time with nothing to show for it. We found their strong defence very difficult to break down and on the few occasion we did get behind them, found their goalkeeper and his replacement after an injury, in excellent form.
The second half was a more even matched affair, with St Albans long ball game starting to give us a few problems. We went behind when a huge scramble in our 6 yard area, finally saw the ball knocked into the net by a St Albans forward. The game really opened up after this and the Hawks gave it everything. We looked most likely to score from one of a string of corners that we were winning; one in particular from Luke Wilson saw a superb header from Sam Waller fly inches over the bar. With about 5 minutes left another corner was only half cleared to the edge of the area, Robbie managed to return it with a neat overhead kick, which took a deflection off a defenders head and nestled into the bottom corner or the net, for a well deserved equaliser.
Mathew Pearce pipped Harry Warwick to man of the match, neither of them putting a foot wrong in the whole game.

Match Report :The crowds who gathered to watch our first home game of the season were not disappointed, as they witnessed an enthralling end to end game of good quality football.
Despite starting the stronger, we went a goal down when a ball through the centre of our defence, was collected by the centre forward who smartly dispatched a left foot shot past Aidan, who was on his way out to close him down. We continued to press forward and we were awarded a penalty when Robbie was taken down on the left side of the penalty area. The penalty was taken by Sam Waller who crashed the ball passed the St Albans keeper. We continued to dominate play and went in front when a jinking run and shot by Harry Warwick, hit the back of the net. We made it 3-1 just before the break when Jamie hit a lovely cross shot across the diving keeper into the bottom corner.
St Albans started the 2nd half strongly and dominated the play for a good 10 minutes and richly deserved the goal that got them back into the game making the score 3-2. The Hawks knuckled down and started to get control of the game once more and a nice move down the right ended with a cross cum shot from Jamie ended up sailing over the keepers head into the net, restoring our two goal advantage. St Albans refused to give up and pulled another goal back with about five minutes left. As I and the watching throng braced themselves for a nail biting end, a lovely through ball from Sam Harris found his name sake Sam Waller clear through with only the excellent St Albans keeper to beat. There was only to be one winner in this little dual as Sam smacked the ball into the net from the edge of the area. No man of the match this week as it was a great team performance, although Aidan made a couple of super saves at vital times in the match. Buying that pet Seal has really improved his juggling skills, which were admired by home and visiting fans alike!

Match Report :Our trip up the M1 was rewarded with a comfortable win against HCB. We started brightly and after only 3 minutes a quickly taken short corner between Luke & Robbie caught their defence unaware, the resulting cross caused confusion and Olly V steered their attempted clearance back into the net from 8 yards out. This early goal gave the boys confidence and they totally dominated the play with some controlled passing. Harry, Robbie and Jamie all had chances to extend our lead, but the first half ended with us just the one goal to the good.
The second half started pretty much as the first did, with us dominating the play and with the passing becoming quicker and sharper it looked like there was only one winner. But as they say `it’s a funny old game’ and with a very rare attack, which didn’t come from their goalie’s long kick, they grabbed an equaliser. This unfortunately came from another situation where we didn’t clear the ball when we had the chance and the game was all square. We never gave HCB the chance to gain any heart from drawing level, as within a minute or so we regained the lead when another good passing move down the right was clipped home by Jamie, who found himself in space at the back post. We continued to press and another good move this time down the left involving Sam W, Joe and Harry ended with Sam W drilling home from the edge of the area. Our final goal was a cracker by Nick Wing; he was tussling for the ball on the right hand side of the 6 yard box, it popped up in the air a couple of times, as it came down the third time he caught it on the volley and it crashed into the top of the net. This individual goal capped of an excellent team performance, with my man of the match being Javaid Payne who won his tackles, passed the ball simply to his team mates and had the vision to slide some lovely through balls to our strikers making forward runs.
Well done to everyone, including those who didn’t get mentioned personally this week.

Match Report :It was a disappointing and frustrating start to our 11 a side campaign in the West Herts. League division 2. Having arrived in St Albans, at a well kept ground with good pitches, and the sun breaking through the cloud, I was confident we would go out, play good football and hopefully win the game. Unfortunately that was not to be the way things panned out.
We started brightly enough and took the lead after about five minutes, when a good move down the right ended with Harry Warwick stealing in at the back post and heading home a nice cross from Sam Waller. Sloppy defending allowed St Albans to equalise after we failed to clear our lines. The game was a real scrappy affair with neither team able to string more than a couple of passes together, but a neat move again down the right, ended with Jamie Gerred crossing for Robbie to finish with ease from about 6 yards. Not long before half-time we lost possession in the middle of the park and a simple ball through the middle allowed a St Albans striker to strike the ball passed Aidan.
In the second half we got off to a poor start and conceded another goal, when we again failed to clear the ball and it broke to a St Albans player in the area who stuck it away. To be fair in the last twenty minutes the boys started to knock the ball around, with a bit longer I’m sure we would have scored two or three goals.
I’m pretty sure we’ll bounce back next week with a good performance, thanks to all who turned up and did their bit today, especially to our lino’s Martin & Dan.
