Notes:
A
glorious summer gave way to a wet autumn for the perennial football challenge
between parents and their 6-year-old boys. All were prepared to face head-on the
challenges that lay ahead. Dads, one and all, vowing to educate their children
in the ways of their heroes from '66. Children were promising to obey our every
command. There they all stood tall and proud in their XXX Small Club kit, that
even after being tucked into their shorts went down past their ankles. The
tension was obvious as players warmed-up and fans took up their favoured
positions. By kick-off the opposition fan had chosen her seat in the grandstand
(Park Bench), while NWR fans (Mums, Dads, Siblings and Pets), swarmed into the
now famous 'Car Park' end.
The
cheerleader squad of Mums could be heard debating every refereeing decision,
as
well as the poor colour matching of the oppositions kit......... and so began
our wonderful journey into the world of Sunday morning football.
In
all seriousness, this season has been a steep learning curve for children and
parents alike. Friendships have been made, goals have been scored and goals have
been conceded (many many goals!!!!). However, it is also fair to say that this
season has been very beneficial and the children have come on in leaps and
bounds and are now champing at the bit to be involved in the League. We had the
pleasure of our first goal in autumn. Our first victory
in
the very cold and wet winter and a group of children who are still as keen and
eager in the spring as the day we started. From a parental perspective it has
been a pleasure being involved with a very keen, eager and well-mannered group
of children - they have given us immense pleasure.
Here's looking forward to next season!!!!
