Sunday 30 January - Bushey Rangers 1 v 8 Nascot Eagles

First thing's first..............WE ARE THE CHAMPIONS!!!!

With Enfield losing 1-0 away at Oxhey the gap at the top is a bridge too far and gives us the league title with four games to spare!!

Oblivious to the match at Enfield, we focused on our own performance away to Bushey. The home game had been a tight affair and on a boggy pitch I was unsure how we would perform. A squad of twelve for the match gave me a selection problem and I decided on a strong seven to start, the plan being to romp the first half and rotate players in the second. Matt started in goal, Bradley and Adam at the back, Jake, Charlie and Taylor making his debut in the midfield, with Daniel as the lone striker. Straight on the offensive we played some slick passing football and made good use of the space to pull Bushey apart. It wasn't long before we opened the scoring with Jake slotting home from close range. One became two, became three, became four for our captain marvel as his red-hot scoring streak continued! Taylor, putting in a confident and dominant display on his debut, together with Charlie covering every blade of grass, notched a goal each and half time saw us cruising at 6-0.
As agreed at training, Jake went in goal for the second half as I looked to shuffle the team and get everyone on. Matt went into defence, as did Joe. Jordan, David and James made up the midfield and Paolo, back from illness, came on upfront. Bushey came out all guns blazing after the break and pulled a goal back from a drop ball in the box. We rallied again and Jordan restored our six goal cushion. The second half was a closer affair and only Daniel managed to breach the Bushey defence once more as the game ended 8-1 to the Eagles.

Congratulations to all the boys for an excellent team performance. The football was exceptional and we thoroughly deserve the league title after a season of such displays.
Lets see if we can remain unbeaten for the last four games to top of the season!

Sunday 23rd January…….. Eagles 4 v 1 Hadley West.
On a cold and frosty morning the eagles turn up full of confidence after last weeks hard fought win at Evergreen. Up against a big Hadley side, Daniel drops back into midfield and Paolo plays the lone striker role. On a slightly hard frosty pitch the eagles kick off and give the ball straight to Hadley who attack and nearly score, but the ball just missing the post. A few more attacks by Hadley, and then against the run of play Daniel picks the ball up just inside his own half near the right touch line and dances around 3 players bangs in a cross that the keeper cant hold, the ball falls nicely for Jake , who makes no mistake , 1-0 Eagles. The goal seems to give the Eagles more confidence and a good passing move finds Daniel again on the right wing, another pin point cross finds Jake who easily beats the keeper 2-0. Hadley attack from the kick off and their striker finds himself one-on-one with Matt who makes a fine save. Daniel continues to terrorise their defence and a smart move , Paolo lays the ball to Luke who beats a defender and then is crudely brought down. Penalty. Up steps Jake for his hat trick but seems to be more Beckham than Trundle and unfortunately the ball flies over the bar.
Half time , and a well deserved break. Jordan replacing the hard working Paolo and Charlie taking over from Matt in goals. Hadley start on the attack, and a great save from Charlie keeps them out. Then 2 breaks from defence find Hadley on the attack, but great defending by Bradley and Adam on both occasions breaks up their strong attacking runs. Eagles are defending well, and Charlie makes another great save turning the ball around for a corner. Eagles step up a gear and from a good move Luke beats the keeper with an unstoppable shot. 3-0. James replaces Bradley, and is immediately involved in a good move down the left hand side, which the defender clears for a corner. From the corner Daniel picks out James on the corner of the area and a delightful chip over everybody and the ball finds the top corner.

A consolation goal for Hadley in the latter stages, from a penalty. A hand ball and Charlie almost keeps it out but the shot is too powerful. Matt replaces Adam in the last 5 minutes and the Eagles hold on.

A great performance from all the lads, well done !!!!

Sunday 16th January…. Evergreen 0 v 1 Eagles
With a full squad of 12 players this week , the 2nd half substitutions would have done Sven proud. A very close and hard fought game which started with the Eagles attacking at every opportunity. A great left wing move with Jake and Luke finds David hugging the line and his cross finds Jake in the area, his 1st time shot comes off a defender for a corner. From the resulting corner, a cross from Daniel finds Jake leaping in a crowded area and his header crashes against the post. The next corner and Jordan turns sweetly on the edge of the area and hammers the ball against the crossbar. Half time arrives with the score at 0-0.
2nd half a complete change of players, Daniel and Luke being the only ones to remain on. End to end football being played and a very vocal Eagles support pushing the boys on. Half way through the half Daniel finds himself just outside the area and a cracking drive hits the net before the keeper has time to move. His 14th goal of the season. The remainder of the half is controlled by the Eagles, but a close call near the end nearly brings an equaliser for the Evergreen team, but Charlie has the ball covered and saves well.Full time whistle brings a very relieved manager and supporters.
Only 6 games remaining and with a 10 point lead the Eagles have the league in the grasp . Next weeks game is a home game against Hadley Rangers.

Sunday 9th January…. Eagles 4 v 1 Oxhey Utd.
After the Christmas break we start the New Year with another top of the table clash. We kick off the game with out 3 of our defenders so Charlie fits in at the back with Bradley. Jordan joins Luke and Jake in midfield, with Daniel up front. First half and we play down the hill with a slight breeze behind us ..It takes the team a little while to wake up but we soon find our selves one up. A clever bit of skill by Luke who beats 3 players, and then a shot that finds the corner 1-0 eagles. In know time at all we increase our lead , Jake finds himself through on goal and makes no mistake with a left foot finish. 2-0. Then the goal of the game, Daniel hits the top corner of the goal with a screamer from outside the area. 3-0 eagles. Oxhey have a few chances , but a point blank save from Matt keeps them out, and they also have a penalty appeal turned down.

Half time and a couple of changes, the wind picks up to the benefit of Oxhey, so we go for a slightly more defensive formation. Luke moves into defence, James replaces Jordan, and Paolo plays the lone striker role and replaces Charlie, with Daniel moving back into midfield.. From the kick off we are penned into our own area and Oxhey have plenty of possession. With one break from goal and a goal mouth scramble , Jake makes the game secure with his 2nd of the game and Eagle's 4th. Oxhey reply with a late consolation goal to make the final score 4-1.
This was a much improved performance from the Eagles and another 3 points keeping us still top of the League. Next week we have another difficult game away to Evergreen.

Sunday 19th December…. Eagles 1 v 0  Enfield

Our last game before Christmas and it’s the top of the table clash. Where as the last few weeks we have played well, this was not one performance to get excited about.
We were on the back foot for most of the game, but good defending, poor finishing ( they hit the post 4 times), and good goal keeping from Matt, kept us in it until halftime.
Halftime and a change of tactics. Within 5 mins the only goal of the game, a break from defence finds Daniel running towards goal, and he makes no mistake…..one nil Eagles.
It was then backs to the wall for the remainder of the game. A special mention to Charlie for his 2nd half performance and the way he harassed and tackled the one man team of Enfield, giving 100%.
So another win, another 3 points, and half way through the season we go into the break with a 7 point lead. Our next game will be another top of the table game at home to Oxhey on the 8th January.

Just want to thank the players, and parents for all their help and hard work.

Merry Christmas !!!!

Sunday 12th December…. London Colney 1 v 4 Eagles

Another cold Sunday morning, another 4 goals and , another 3 points for the ever improving Eagles.

On what could be described as a “ heavy “ ,but small pitch the Eagles set about the opposition from the start. Unlike the previous 2 weeks we scored 1st. A great through ball found Paolo charging towards goal, with the goal keeper to beat he calmly placed the ball to his right and into the bottom corner. One nil Eagles.

The 2nd goal didn’t take long to arrive , David  finding space on the left edge of the area drilled the ball into the back of the net. Two nil.

A rare attempt into the area from the home team finds the player falling to the ground under minimal contact and the referee points straight to the spot. Penalty. Jordan dives to his left and couldn’t quite keep the ball out…..2-1.

Then we have the weekly occurrence of Daniel‘s party-piece, scoring straight from the corner. The ball hammered into the goal but the unfortunate goalkeeper had no chance…… 3-1 half time.

A couple of half time substitutions and much more of the same is the instructions. The Manager much more relaxed this week.

The second half the Eagles seem content on defending their lead, with Bradley , Joe and Adam, immense in stopping the attacks, and Charlie like a terrier winning the ball in all areas. On one of our many breaks into the other half Jake finds himself clear and its four.   A special mention must go to our goal keeper Jordan who made 2 outstanding saves in the 2nd half, including a wonderful diving save to his left to turn the ball around the post,  and was also very unlucky with the penalty.

The Eagles are flying high !!

Sunday 5th December…. Eagles 4 v 2 Harvesters East

It seems in the last couple of weeks the boys have made life difficult for themselves in the first half, but then showing their true worth after the break. The difference this week, was that we played well throughout and our passing game on the whole was much improved.

Against a big and physical harvesters side, an excellent game of football was played out. It was end to end stuff throughout the 40 minutes. We start with our usual 2-3-1 formation, without the ever reliable Matt in goals, Bradley took between the sticks in the first half, and made some excellent saves. By half time though, we were 2 goals down which seemed to excite the Harvesters manager rather too much, as both goals were excellently put away.

Half time chat ,slight change around and a completely different formation,( 1-2-3) we attack straight from kick off and within minutes we are back in it. A good passing move and Jake finds the back of the net, 1-2. Straight away the equaliser, a cracking shot from Luke hits the roof of the net and the Eagles are flying.

With Jordan in goals and Adam being the last line of defence for the 2nd half, they manage to keep out everything that the Harvesters could throw at them, as they break away very well against our very attacking formation. Our 3rd goal soon arrived , again it was one of Daniel’s special corners, where he shoots and scores. 3-2.  As the Eagles fans celebrate a hush for the 1st time in the match arrives in the Harvesters manager.

Another change in formation, with an another defender moving back, and the last few minutes are played out from end to end. With seconds remaining and to finish it off, David beats one player and finds the net after a great move between James and Jake and the Eagles have won again.

Who needs the over-rated and over-paid Premier League when you can watch excellent games like this.

I would just like to thank every player for their efforts this week, and every parent for their support .

Sunday 28th November…. Berk Blues 2 v 4  Eagles.

After last weeks friendly it was back to League action for the Eagles.

On a very slopey pitch we kick off uphill first half and have plenty of possession but no end product. Our usual passing game went out of the window as the lads try to beat the other team single handedly.  From a rare attack the Blues have a corner, which is hammered into the area and unluckily catches the outside of Jordan’s boot (not the model with the big chest I hasten to add) and into the net. One nil Blues.

Then within a few minutes its two nil. A cracking long range effort bounces just in front of Matt and into the back of the net, a goal to grace any game. So at half time its Blues 2, Eagles 0.

Half time ,a few words, and a change of formation and of course playing down the slope, the Eagles come out flying. We score within a minute, a pass from Daniel and Jake hammers it into the net. 2-1. Within no time at all the equaliser, again Daniel finds space down the left , crosses the ball and this time finds James unmarked who coolly puts it into the corner. 2-2

The Eagles are now on top and take the lead through a pile driver from Luke, who has a fantastic game covering every blade of grass during the 40 minutes. To finish the match off Jake slots the ball in to round off a great 2nd half performance. and send the travelling Eagles  fans home happy.

A special mention must go to the home goalkeeper who made some excellent saves and also caught a Daniel pile driver full in the face but dried his tears and played on.

This was definitely a game of 2 halves and the 1st time this season we have gone behind so Well Done to the boys for their determination.

We are now Top of the League and hopefully remain to the end of the season.

Sunday 14th November……Eagles 4 v 1 Bushey Hawks

After last weeks comprehensive win, the confidence in the team was very high.

A couple of positional changes this week with Adam moving into defence and David playing on the left of midfield, in a 2-3-1 formation. We kick off and are soon on the attack, pinning the hawks back into their own half. Some great play by David puts the ball through to Jake and with a delicious pinpoint through ball finds Daniel in space who makes no mistake and its …..one nil eagles.               With more pressure the 2nd goal looks likely and with a great run from Luke puts a great ball into the area that finds David unmarked and slots the ball into the back of the net with his right foot……two nil. ( cue one proud dad )

Half time and a couple of changes James coming on for David and Bradley filling the goalkeepers shirt , Joe settling into the defence .

Unfortunately the team seem to be half asleep and a good move from the Hawks and its two.. one. The Eagles step up a gear and Daniel picks up the ball in his own half and runs for goal, will he shoot or will he pass,he miss hits his shot with his left foot but it ends up in the net……3-1.

Two further changes, Jordan coming on for Adam and Charlie for captain Jake. Again, corner after corner and plenty of pressure. A dazzling run from Luke picks out Daniel on the edge of the area and its 4-1. A hat trick for Daniel.

A great all round performance from all the lads.  WELL DONE !!!!

Sunday 7 November - Hadley Wood 0 - 7 Nascot Wood

With the absence of Brian from the touchlines, I duly stepped in to run the teams third league game of the season. Undefeated, and coming off the back of their first win, the team were full of confidence for the trip to Hadley Wood.

Unsure of the opposition we went for the safety of a three man midfield.
Jake and Luke were able to push forward with Adam sitting deep to protect the back two. Matt was in goal, Bradley and Joe started at the back, Daniel was the lone striker which with the midfield completed the seven.
Positive from the start, we forced an early corner. Daniel swung it in to the near post and the struggling defender could only slice it into the net.
One nil. Quick to close down the opposition and retrieve possession we were lethal on the counter attack and Hadley had no answer. Half time arrived together with a 5-0 advantage. The half time message was simple more of the same and no complacency, an early goal and they'd lose interest. A re-shuffle from Hadley meant a more physical second half but we responded and added a further two goals finishing the game 7-0 to the good.

Daniel was a menace throughout and walked away with four goals to his name.
Jake, as captain, was at his creative best unlucky only to score the one.
Adam had a superb match breaking up the opposition play and scored a screamer from the edge of the box. Luke was up and down the pitch and also took his goal well. The whole team really exceeded my expectations and played some fantastic football. Matt made some crucial stops to keep our first clean sheet of the season. Bradley and Joe, my rocks at the back, battled well. David came on and together with James played some lovely passing football down our left flank. Paolo, on in the second half, showed great composure on the ball and a willingness to track back when the ball was lost.

Great stuff guys, I hope you enjoyed it. Three points in the bag, it's onward and upward!

Sunday 24th October…. Oxhey Utd. 1  v 1  Eagles

After 3 very defeats in our qualifying games we start our 1st league game with an attacking formation. We kick off but are put straight on the defensive, and after a short time a clearance from defence sets Daniel off on a run from inside his own half, and slots the ball into the bottom corner. …One nil Eagles.

End to end football. 2nd half and Utd get back into the game with a good finish…. one all.

Late in the game with Eagles pushing forward, Paolo is chopped down in the area…… a penalty ???   But ,no, the referee has other ideas and restarts the game with a drop ball. A decision that baffles the large travelling support.

Full time and a great start for the Eagles. With a bit more confidence it wont be long before our 1st win arrives.

So congratulations to all the boys and thank you to all the parents for their continued support, it is very much appreciated.

Sunday 31st October….Eagles 3  v 2 Evergreen juniors

After 6 away games we finally play a home game. After last weeks performance the boys are now buzzing with confidence. We kick off and  virtually in the first few minutes we are awarded a free kick from quite a long way out. Daniel steps up and the ball finds it way to the goal keepers left and inside the net….. one nil eagles.

Evergreen start to come back at us and within no time are level. 2nd half and evergreen continue to press and take the lead with a shot into the top corner. The lads regroup and play some good football, passing it around, and attacking at all opportunities, and from one of our many corners taken by Daniel , he finds the back of the net via the front post. Its now one way traffic and in a goal mouth scramble up steps Luke who finds the back of the net.  Cue one excited Manager !!!!

The last few minutes seem to last for ages as we defend our lead. Our 1st win of many !!

The Eagles have landed.  Look out Green Division.
