NWR v. Chorleywood Blue

4 - 2

Match Report

Nascot Wood got full revenge for their earlier 2-8 mauling by Chorleywood by producing, probably, their best display of the season to date with some excellent passing football which left Chorleywood with no answers. Despite losing the first goal, scored against the run of play, Nascot continued to move forward and got their reward when Ashley Tibble equalised towards the end of the first half. Despite having to play the second half up the hill, Nascot produced some good controlled and thoughtful football and carved out a number of chances before Ashley Walker scored to make it 2-1. Another Chorleywood goal, scored against the run of play, make honours even but then NWR pushed on and James Schmid scored from a goal line scramble. The game was wrapped up five minutes from the end when John Farrell chased the ball down in the area and passed it out to Ben Cook who buried the ball in the back of the net.

A result that the entire team can be proud of.

Match Report

NWR started the New Year with a good work out against Harpenden Eagles. The game was over by half time with NWR already six goals to the good and three players one goal away from a hat trick. The second half started with NWR changing to move to a back three and playing an attacking 5 in midfield and 2 upfront. The game ended with all of the squad having played and a very different looking side completing the match to the starting 11. The only goal of the second half was scored by Callum Griffin and NWR should take pride in keeping a clean sheet.

Wood Rangers v. NWR3 - 5Schmid (2)
Match Report
Combridge, Moreton (Brown), Longman, Cotton, Ahmed, Cook, Walker, Tibble (Hudson), Griffin, Schmid, Swaine (Aston)
Nascot Wood took full revenge for their earlier home defeat by Wood Rangers by returning the compliment and winning away from home. Wood Rangers became the first team this season to beat AEK Kalopsida last week but this counted for nothing as NWR ended the first half 3-0 up with some excellent passing play and 3 brilliantly crafted and taken goals. There was a 10 minute wobble at the start of the second half when Wood Rangers pulled back 2  but then NWR went and scored 2 more excellent goals.
Highlight, aside from the goals, was the performance on the left side of the pitch with Ahmed and Griffin putting in a great complimentary display. Another great all-round performance from the team

Chorleywood Blue v. NWR8 - 2
Match Report
A bright start in which NWR took an early lead promised more successes but this was to prove a false dawn. The team seemed to be suffering from a combination of “late night syndrome” and intimidation from the tall boys on Chorleywood’s team. The lead lasted about 10 minutes but the half ended with NWR 4-1 down. The second half was a mirror-repeat of the first half with NWR closing the scoring to make it the first and last goals in the game. The last 10 minutes showed the boys that the size of the opposition did not matter as they threw caution to the wind and pushed back Chorleywood to score the late consolation goal.

NWR v. Comets 4 - 1Schmid
Match Report

Combridge, Cook, Moreton (Brown), Longman, Cotton, Ahmed, Tibble (Farrell), Walker, Hudson (Griffin), Swaine (Sears), Schmid

Another confident display from the Under 13 team saw them take a 2-0 lead into the half time interval. Pick of the first half goals was a great long distance shot from James Schmid that the goalkeeper had no chance in stopping to make the score 2-0.

A mix up in the defence shortly after the restart bought the score back to 2-1 but Nascot Wood stuck to their passing game and had two more goals and countless chances to show for it.

Steve Cotton had an excellent game in the heart of the defence and the back line with the wing backs showed great presence of mind throughout with some neat passing work bringing the ball out of defence on a number of occasions.

The ultimate compliment was paid the team by the Comets manager and coach who both said that Nascot played some lovely football.

Well done to the whole team.

NWR v. Hadley Rangers

7 - 4

Match Report

Combridge, Cook, Longman, Brown, Cotton, Moreton, Tibble, Walker, Farrell, Swaine, Schmid
The late kick-off seemed to suit NWR well as they started the game with great pace and style, sprinting away to a 3 goal lead before Hadley pulled one back. Pick of the first half goals was a sweet move which built on the right hand side of the park with 3 NWR players exchanging passes before a deep cross from the right was met with a bullet of a volley by Sam Moreton to bury the ball in the back of the net.
A lax 10 minutes at the start of the second half allowed Hadley to pull back 2 goals to make the score 4-3 but then NWR put the pressure back on and extended the lead by 3 more goals before Hadley scored a late consolation goal.
The passing game NWR played for most of the match really opened up the opponents defence time and again and many more chances were created. Another fine performance which built on the cup game from the previous week and shows NWR what they can achieve when the look to play passing football.

Sunday 13th November 2005Result:Scorers:Man Of The Match:
NWR v. Berkhampstead Athletic

2 - 3

Match Report

Combridge, Moreton (Brown), Longman, Cotton, Ahmed, Cook, Walker (Hudson), Tibble, Swaine, Schmid, Farrell (Griffin)

The disappointment of an early exit from the League Cup was compensated for by a fantastic second half display which brought NWR back from a 0-2 half time deficit to draw level with Berkhamstead, second in the second division and conquerors of Alexandra Park Youth who beat us in the Challenge Cup. The change from a 4-4-2 formation to using wing-backs and 5-3-2 brought the rewards as the team attacked with passion and style to claw back the two goals. Even after conceding an unlucky third goal, NWR still attacked and were unlucky to hit the post late on. This display should give the team confidence for the coming league games as they were never second best.

Evenly matched game which was cruelly snatched away from NWRFC in the final two minutes.

Sunday 25th September 2005Result:Scorers:Man Of The Match:
Oakhill Tiger Predators v. NWR

2 - 1

Match Report

Team: Combridge, Ahmed, Moreton (Cotton), Longman, Commisiong, Cook, Brown (Hudson), Griffith (Farrell), Swaine, Farrell (Tibble), Schmid
Subs (not used) Tibbles, Sears

This was a game constantly spent in Oakhill’s half of the pitch yet Nascot Wood’s dominance was never converted into goals due to a lack of anyone wanting to “pull the trigger” and take the shot. Two breakaways by Oakhill’s speedy number 10, either side of a Schmid penalty, punished NWR for their inability to turn their dominance into goals. Even changing from a 4-4-2 formation to a more attacking 4-3-3 did not manage to reverse the deficit despite the last 5 minutes being virtually all one direction.

Sunday 18th September 2005Result:Scorers:Man Of The Match:
NWR v. Badwell Rangers

0 - 2

Match Report

A difficult draw for the first round of the Herts County Cup found the U13’s playing a team from Stevenage Borough’s 2nd division. Ultimately the difference betweens the divisions proved just a little too much ground to make up for NWR but the team can be proud with the display they put up. At no time were Nascot outclassed and actually had a number of chances to score in each half with a couple of shots narrowly missing the post. All 16 players present eventually got a game and the commitment, passion and skill shown throughout the match bodes well for the coming league season if Nascot can reproduce this form consistently.

Sunday 11th September 2005Result:Scorers:Man Of The Match:
NWR v. Harpenden Hawks

5 - 1

John Farrell
James Schmid
Callum Griffiths
Ben Cook (2)
Match Report

Great start to the new season with NWR getting off to a well deserved win and never really looking troubled despite Hawks surprisingly scoring with the last kick of the game. First half goals from John Farrell, James Schmid and Callum Griffiths tool NWR safely to the break. The second half began with NWR making two substitutions which took a while to bed in but then NWR again moved forward and scored two further goals from Ben Cook and a second from John Farrell. Hawks pulled back a goal in the second minute of injury time with a lob that left the keeper with no chance.
