Cassiobury Panthers 0 – 1 NWR Falcons U8

Jack Eaton

A great strike from Jack Eaton after 2 minutes was enough to see off the Panthers in a game which was played in a good spirit by both teams. The Falcons played well throughout the game and there were chances to extend the lead for Alex Beaumont and Charlie Griffiths, who both had a great match.

Alex Withero had a terrific game at the back with Jack Birch both making some crucial tackles for us and Stephen Griffin linked up well with attack and defence and was involved in almost everything. Callum Hamlett was alert in goal and made some fine stops to deny the Panthers goal scoring opportunities.

A special mention should be made about the new boy Charlie Cole who played his first game for the Falcons, and fitted in very well with the team. Well done to him and well done to all the boys – a great result!

Team: Alex Beaumont, Jack Birch, Charlie Cole, Jack Eaton, Stephen Griffin, Charlie Griffiths, Callum Hamlett, Alex Withero.

NWR U8 Falcons 0 - 5 Strides

A good effort from the Falcons but we conceded a couple of silly goals from defensive mistakes which flattered Strides. Jack Eaton and Charlie Griffiths had chances to make the score respectable and on the whole we played well throughout the game. Alex Beumont seemed to be everywhere in defence and attack. Jake England played with determination, as did Alex Withero and Jack Birch in defence and Stephen Griffin worked tirelessly in midfield. Callum Hamlett played well in goal and had no chance with any of the goals. If our defending had been slightly better who knows?

A great effort by the boys, our time will come!

London Colney 8 - 0 NWR Falcons U8’s

Two quick goals in the first few minutes from London Colney sealed our fate in a game that saw the Falcons biggest defeat of the season.

The Falcons competed well and had a few chances in the second half with Alex Beaumont coming close with a couple of shots and Charlie Griffiths beating three players only to be denied by some last ditch defending towards the end. We never got to close them down quick enough and although Jake England provided some great tackles and Jack Birch made some sterling challenges and Alex Withero who did very well helping out the defence it seemed that every shot London Colney took went in our net even though the brave Callum Hamlett in goal made some great saves and stopped a possible cricket score.

Jack Eaton and Stephen Griffin ran their socks off for the team but the early goals had done the damage and from then on we found it difficult to get back into the game. Disappointing to say the least but I think the farce of the group stages, which proved tough for us, has carried over to this division which will test our character and resolve, things will change in the next few weeks I have faith in the boys.

NWR U8 Falcons 0 - 5 Omonia Green

A disappointing result after the boys had battled hard to finish the first half 0-0. The second half saw Alex Beaumont, who had a good first half in midfield, swap with goalkeeper Callum Hamlett, who had a great first half in goal. All the boys tried hard, Stephen Griffin yet again covering the whole pitch (finishing the game in goal), Alex Withero battling hard and making some good tackles, Jack Eaton always getting back to help the defence and support the attack, Jack Birch defending well yet again, as was Jake England whose excellent defensive challenges are not for the faint hearted, and Charlie Griffiths who chased a few lost causes and forced their keeper to make a mistake but could not convert from the difficult angle. We let in a couple of soft goals today but I have nothing but admiration for the boy’s effort throughout all the group games. With lots of encouragement, support and a positive attitude we will begin to shape up into a very useful team.

Cassiobury Panthers U8 2 – 1 NWR Falcons U8

Charlie Griffiths

The Falcons were unlucky to lose this game, our defending was a little slack towards the end leaving goalkeeper Callum Hamlett no chance with the two Cassiobury goals. Most of the game was played in Cassiobury’s half with some great running and passing from all the boys, Stephen Griffin, Alex Beaumont and Jack Eaton all having shots, Alex Withero always winning the ball back and pushing us forward, Jack Birch doing some great defending and managing to get forward and Jake England making some crunching tackles.

Unfortunately Charlie Griffiths missed a penalty which might have given the Falcons the lead at half time but instead it remained 0-0. The second half proved to be a half of mixed emotions, Charlie Griffiths scored to put the Falcons ahead and I thought we had done enough to win after all our hard work, sadly it was not to be.

Well done lads! I am very pleased with the performance of the team over the last few weeks the attitude is excellent as is the effort and running, but most importantly we are now beginning to pass the ball a lot more.

NWR U8 Falcons 0 - 5 Abbots Youth U8

The effort and passion shown by the Falcons was not reflected in the result and probably flattered an organised Abbots side which are playing their second season together.  Both Callum Hamlett (first half) and Alex Beaumont (second half)  did well in goal and were unlucky with some of the shots, there were some great runs made by Jack Eaton, Charlie Griffiths, Stephen Griffin and Alex Withero and with Jake England making some brave challenges we had our spells of pressure but did not make the most of them.

It was a physical game at times and we will have to learn how to cope with that, but I am still very proud of the boy’s mentality to keep going.  All in all a good learning experience for both team, and manager.

Falcons: Alex Beaumont, Jack Eaton, Jake England, Stephen Griffin, Charlie Griffiths, Callum Hamlett, Alex Withero.

Harvesters Sth 0 NWR Falcons 2

Jack Eaton, Alex Withero

What can I say other than brilliant! Not only did every player give their all, they played with a good team spirit.  We had a couple of early close shaves but Callum Hamlett made a string of excellent saves that helped keep us in the game. Charlie Griffiths came close, hitting the woodwork and his narrow miss made me think this was not going to be our day.  Alex Withero and Jack Birch made many great defensive challenges keeping Harvesters at bay and Stephen Griffin was tireless in his running and shooting.  At half time it was 0-0 but with Jack Eaton and Jake England always looking dangerous, winning the ball and making great runs it was only a matter of time before we scored. Alex Beaumont demonstrated his versatility swapping the goal-keeper’s shirt with Callum for the second half, making some fine saves to keep a clean sheet for the Falcons.

Jack Eaton scored our first goal and it was fitting that Alex Withero scored our second.  A big thank you to all the parents for their support.

The Falcons are looking good and if we keep putting the same amount of effort in every game this could be a good first season.
