5/11/06 Challenge Cup Round One - Pinnacle 1 v 3 NWR Eagles Jake Swaine (2), James McGarry

An early start for another marathon drive into London, we turned up at possibly the biggest pitch in the league. Unfortunately the length of grass wasn't much shorter than the pitch giving us problems playing our usual game! We started ok and got one up, some slick passing from our own goal kick was finished by Jake meeting Josh's cross. 1-0. Unfortunately we failed to add a second and conceeded before half time after failing to clear a corner. Some choice words at half time together with substitutions gave us more bite in the tackle and we wrestled the game from Pinnacle. James got on the end of a through ball from Josh to hit the corner, the keeper unable to keep out the shot. With just five to play the opposition tired and a clumsy challenge on Josh saw Jake rifle in a free kick from 15 yards.

Not the prettiest game we've played but we're still in the hat for the next round! Well done for digging deep and grinding out the result today.

22/10/06 NWR Eagles v London Colney Colts 7-0 Jake Swaine (3),Michael Stapleton (2), Josh Roe, O.G.

A top draw performance today saw us win convincingly against London Colney Colts. Quick out of the blocks there was little reply to our slick play.
We're really starting to bond and work for each other, the passing and movement was brilliant today.
We were four up at half time and looked to push on. Changing formation, we went with one at the back and four in midfield. We added three more goals after the break and could have scored more.

Jake scored a hat-trick, Michael got a brace, Josh finished a slick passing move and an OG completed the scoring.

I was very impressed with all of you today, it was a great way to finish the qualifying matches. Onwards and upwards.

15/10/06 Gadeside Rangers Red vs Nascot Wood Eagles 1-4 Jake Swaine (2), Paolo Deritis, Michael Stapleton

No league qualifying fixture this week so we were invited to play Gadeside at Westfield School. This was going to prove a tougher test than our last two matches and we had to raise our game to come out as winners today.
Our football is never in question but whether or not we could match the physical presence of Gadeside was my biggest concern. I didn't need to worry though as the boys more than matched them and dominated the personal battles across the pitch. We looked composed throughout and played some attractive football going forward. The back three had a busier job today but all performed well enabling the rest of us to push on. Jake showed his skill to finish well and open the scoring, Paolo and Michael added another two by half time. The second half became a scrappier affair but we dug in and broke well to add a fourth, Jake slamming in a rebound.

Very impressed with our attitude today in what could have been a potential banana skin. Well done guys.

8/10/06 Harvesters East vs Nascot Wood Eagles 1-3 Josh Roe (3)

Confident after last weeks impressive result, we went to Harvesters looking to put another three points on the board. We looked sharp in the warm up and took that onto the pitch. The pass and move we're known for was evident from the kick off and it wasn't long before shots were flying at the Harvesters keeper. We got 2-0 up in the first ten minutes and fell into the trap of trying to do too much with the ball. No more goals before half time, the message was keep it simple and we went out in much the same style. Josh scored the third after his first half brace to complete a fantastic hat-trick and show the sort of form he has been threatening the last couple of weeks. The shots kept flying but some good keeping and poor finishing failed to add to the score. We switched off for a second at the back and they got a scrappy consolation. There was only going to be one winner on the day and we should have added to the goal tally.

Well done guys on another solid performance!

1/10/06 NWR Eagles vs Enfield Rangers B W 6-0 Michael Stapleton 4,
Jake Swaine, James McGarry

Eager to make up for last weeks result we were quick out of the blocks on Sunday and raced to 3-0 within ten minutes. Some neat football and improved confidence were a killer combination to which Enfield had no reply. We upped the tempo further in the second half and with better finishing could have doubled the goal tally. Michael scored 4, Jake and James also got a goal each.
The clean sheet was a bonus and was the reward for some fantastic defending not just at the back but throughout the team.
Well done guys.

24/9/06 Whetstone Wanderers Lions vs NWR Eagles L 3-1 Michael

Not what I expected when I opened the fixture list, away to the top division winners last season was always going to be a tough match!! Having trouble finding the ground we had no subs until late in the game. We played some good stuff in parts and on another day could have been lucky and come away from the game with something. Some of the pass and move from last year was clear to see but we lacked a cutting edge today. Michael scored our goal, heading in after Josh had crashed the bar with a screamer.
Well done lads, the Lions only conceded 1 goal in the whole of last season so we've obviously gone some way to catching them up over the summer! Not a bad start to the season.

16/7/07 Sun Postal 6 Aside Winners

Always a good event, we went into the Sun Postal 6-a-side to try out a few changes and have a fun day out to end the season. On a hot day we played some slick football and proved what we are capable of. We lost our first group game 0-1 to Whetstone Wanderers but kicked on and never looked back. Winning our next four group matches scoring 7 goals and conceding just 1, we topped the table and faced Gadeside Rangers in the semi-final. A dominant performance saw us through to the final 1-0. The last match was against Everett Rovers who had beaten us twice during the regular season. A close and nervy affair saw us go in 0-0 at half time but fresh legs at half time proved to be the difference as Josh and James both came off the bench to score and give us a 2-0 win!! Our first trophy!!

Everyone was on top form and worked extremely hard for each other. Bradley kept 5 clean sheets in goal, Matt was excellent at the back and pushing forward, Charlie and Josh covered every blade of grass in midfield, Paolo and James put together some slick play to support Michael upfront who was electric. Finally my captain for the day Joash, encouraged the team and kept a cool head to maintain our defensive strength throughout the tournament. Congratulations to all the players and thank you to all the parents for your support. Best wishes go out to my 'captain fantastic', Jake who unfortunately came down ill on the eve of the tournament. Well done guys, enjoy the summer.
