End of Season Report
After finishing last season as runners-up we found ourselves promoted to the yellow division. From last year’s squad of 18, we were whittled down to 16, with Daniel Arnold packing his bags and moving to the south coast, and David Cross taking up “egg-chasing”. With a move across town we now played our home games at Queen’s School.
We started the season well playing good passing football, and scoring goals for fun (just like watching the Swans). Unfortunately as in every other season we seemed to come up against much stronger teams in the cup competitions.
But we did manage to win our County Cup game away to Sawbridgeworth Juniors 6-2…….…..nearly in Cambridge !!!!
The weather played a big part in the season, with many games being postponed due to torrential rain, flooding or frost and snow. As with previous seasons, the change in the weather, brought a change in our fortune, struggling for goals and results and at one point staring relegation in the face (Just like Watford).
We played over a third of the season without our 1st choice goalkeeper as Ryan broke his wrist in November, but Adam Lansley and Ben Fullylove took over as reserve keepers and played exceptionally well.0
Into the new year and with results picking up, we made our charge up the table, moving up to 2nd at one point, but unfortunately it didn’t last and we finished mid-table.
My highlight of the season was our double-header victories over then top of the table Pinner.
The disappointment of the season was our performance against Everett rovers in the Spring Plate trophy semi-final, after finishing the mini-league unbeaten and winning a home semi-final.
Goal of the season was Callum’s beckam-like lob from inside his own half, away to Enfield. (cost me £10)
I would like to thank:
Tony Cortes for his assistance every week and running the team during my weekends away working.
Ian Baker for giving up his time coaching the lads on Tuesday evenings.
Chris Bischoff for having the wonderful task of collecting the subs throughout the season and keeping everything
The various gentlemen who assisted with running the line, and for Steve Ring for refereeing when needed.
Many thanks for all the parents for their support throughout the season, and all the players for keeping me on my toes and making it a very enjoyable year.
Lastly I would like to wish Daniel, Charlie, Dominic, Rohin, and Teddy all the best for the future now they are leaving the team and moving onto pastures new.
Onwards and upwards !!
