End of Season Report
A very long season saw the Under 16 team play 18 league games and 10 cup games. Consequently our season did not end until 17th May – the week after the Championship played its last game!
For the third season in a row the team ended amongst the honours as runners-up in the Green division. Whilst the table suggests we lost 3 league games the reality was only 2 were lost as we did not play against Highgate and Muswell Hill on the last day of the Championship season and we allowed them to claim the win as they needed the points!
During the course of the league season the team scored 79 goals and ended the season with the leagues joint top goalscorers in Alex Willerton and James Schmid scoring 30 goals each. In one notable game Alex netted 10 times against Chorleywood Blues.
The campaign was not without incident as we lost Sam Moreton for the last 12 games as he suffered a very nasty dislocation of the knee – we wish him well for a full recovery and hope he can play again next season.
We welcomed 7 new players to the team all of whom played their part during the course of the season.
Having already mentioned the exploits of the dynamic strike force I think it is also worth mentioning the rest of the team.
From the back Ollie was consistent and constant in goal and captained the side. The defence made up at times from Danny, Callum, Sam, Ben, Nat, Oronde and Bradley ensured that we managed to score more than we conceded.
The creative energy of the midfield was provided by Ashley, Tom, Hayden, Callum, Steve, Josh and Jack.
Throughout the course of the season I think that the team again proved that they could play with the best of them and only lost in the cups to teams out of the top divisions.
Next season brings the challenges of the Under 18s and playing against older teams. I think the team should really feel confident that they can compete with anyone and we should look forward to a new season with confidence.
My thanks go to:
Graham Willerton; who has assisted me on match days with the team
John Schmid; who has refereed many of the home games
and all those who have run the line both home or away.
